The Escher String Quartet, formed in 2005, has received acclaim for its profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty. The Escher Quartet takes its name from Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher, inspired by Escher’s method of interplay between individual components working together to form a whole. They are one of the very few chamber ensembles to be awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. In New York, they serve as Artists of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Todd Crow, Music Director and Pianist of the Mt. Desert Festival of Chamber Music and Professor of Music at the Vassar College, has performed extensively in the U.S., South America and Europe. He plays regularly in the major halls of New York and London and on BBC Radio. Following this summer’s Mt. Desert festival, he returns to perform at the Festival Paesaggi Musicali Toscani in Italy.
The Escher String Quartet will perform the following pieces with pianist Todd Crow on August 11, 2015:
String Quartet in C minor (“Quartettsatz”), D. 703, Franz Schubert
String Quartet No. 1, Béla Bartók
Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 84, Edward Elgar
