Executive Director Position

Role:
The Mt. Desert Festival of Chamber Music is seeking a part-time Executive Director to manage all administrative aspects of its summer music festival. If you would enjoy running a small not-for-profit, this is the role for you!  A love of classical music is a plus, but not a requirement.

Mission:

  • Concerts:Five world-class chamber music concerts every Tuesday, mid-July through August.
  • Location:Neighborhood House, Northeast Harbor, ME – intimate setting with excellent acoustics.
  • Musicians:Primarily string quartets, hired by the Music Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Concert Production:
    • Coordinate with the Music Director and musicians.
    • Arrange venue logistics, ticket sales, and on-site post-concert dinners for musicians.
  • Ticket Sales & Marketing:
    • Manage subscriber and at-the-door ticket sales.
    • Produce flyers, trifold and program booklet. 
    • Secure local advertising revenue.
    • Maintain and update website.
    • Create content for social media.
  • Donor Relations & Development:
    • Oversee donations which are 2/3 of the budget; organization is in a strong position financially.
    • Collaborate with the Development Committee on donor outreach and acknowledgments.
  • Financial Management:
    • Use QuickBooks Online to manage income, expenses, and accounts.
    • Prepare budgets, reports, and tax data in collaboration with the accountant.

Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative, organizational, and people skills.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online (or willingness to learn).
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Local presence required during July and August; remote work possible otherwise.

Additional Details:

  • Part-time position. Activity peaks during the summer but continues at a lower level year-round.
  • Compensation based on experience.
  • An assistant to handle box office and other tasks can be hired.
